To do or not to do, that is the quiz

Hey hoo, there been some recent activity lately with sound design package, audio skits being made and planned, audio tutorials and voice actings being done for many.
__________________________________________________________________________________
Most recently, Pinkhair won the wegame contest with his train-tooting movie.
Nice to see the first machinima my piano pieces was used in actually won the contest.
Kudos to pinkhair and enjoy the alienware you bastard <3
On the sidebar, I’ve now added a donation button, now donations are voluntary of course and 1$ is fine enough.
The reason why I’ve added it there is cos I need  funds to take over the world. Well no..
I’ve talked about audio tutorials and so on and I’m keeping on making them but I’m really busy with work and so on that hinders me to finish the tutorials. So by donating, I can lay off some work and use that time to work on the tutorials instead. Now keep in mind I be working on the tutorials regardless, but only when I got free time.
By donating for that reason or any other that comes to your mind I can repay that in a couple of ways:
Your name and what ever link you want on this blog, the sound designer blog and on my future website being planned now.
Your name and link in special thanks credits on every project I create, including the audio tutorials of course.
Sound design requests for the packages <-(limited by the amount donated of course), and other treats I might come up with as we go along.
So hopefully, that can be kinda nice for anyone willing to support.

On the last bit of news,  I finally got to hear from Khandy again, so no she isn’t dead nor did she get kidnapped by the oompa loompa gnomes:

Apparently,  she been busy rewritting and stuff for her new upcoming movie and I got a new recent script which seem to go in a very interesting path. She also was kind enough to provide some pictures for me to show :)
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
Some very awesome and interesting stuff, I am looking forward to seeing the end result of THIS one :D
So, that’s it for now. Enjoy.
Until next time, GxG aka Caruu

Ah yes, random title.
Anyway.

Been lots of stuff happening lately, from sound design, music to voice acting and I’ll try to cover all in this post so it might be a good long one.

First of some sad news:

don-lafontaine.jpg

Donald LaFontaine or best known as “King of voice overs” or “Voice of God” passed away September 1st of a blood clot. If you ever saw a trailer\preview clip you most likely heard his voice doing the famous trailer voice he was best known for. It is sad to have lost him in the field as he was respected by many and envied for his amazing coarse voice. My deepest respects to his wife and children. Rest in peace.

Youtube movie of Don LeFontaine that explains everything about the man, the legend, the voice

Now onto more happy stuff:

Recently, the wegame contest came to an end and with 120 entries up and spiring, there are some movies that did well and some that could’ve need some more work. I didn’t have time to watch all 120 of them so I watched only some. It so happens I was ninjaed along to work with some of them.

First we have Pinkhairs movie: The Robber Baron of Warsong Gulch.

This is probably the only unique entry of them all, as it is made like a silent movie with title cards and low quality effect on the film to make it more Authentic. Some of the piano work is by me and he used them right. If you look at my previous blog posts you can find a link to all the music. He also used a projector sound I provided him and it worked out good as well. I thought the movie was amazing and I hope it is one of the top winners :)

Next we have Firebolt productions - Yohan Vågstedt: Way Of Life

For this movie I provided voices and sound design, I did Arthas and Scarpo neither of them came out as good as I had hopes for :\ oh well. I did the sound design for the movie and used about a week to create mostly everything original. I used some sound libraries to speed the process up and some other sound designer gave me permission to use some of their sounds, though I had to redesign most of theirs. You will notice that in the beginning there is lots of detail to the sound until after the horses are gathered. I realized that time was short and I had to hurry. I finished it right on time which was lucky.
It was interesting and I tried to balance it so that there was only music at some parts and where Nathan decided not compose for (to also save time), I added more detail to the sound design. The battle between the giant and the creatures is without music and just with sound but I love that bit cos it provide solitude to the sound scape and emphasize cruelty and bitterness there is in natures “big fish eats little fish” concept. It should have a lonely and chaotic feel to it which I think all of us were able to achieve. In the end, I had to master the volume so voices, sound design and music all were in balance, as well as making the voices fit the scenes (Bassing them, reverbing. ect.)

Next project is DragonPowers movie: Fight for Survival - Episode One

For this movie I provided all the voices except the dwarfs voice, which was provided by Matt Greenburg.
The script was strangely put together and confusing but the outcome was better than what I imagined.
There will be future installments of this series so if you enjoyed it as much as I did, don’t worry.

Last we got Mushanga’s movie: Wish Upon a Gnome part 1

I only had one character part here which was Archimonde, though he had two lines, I was too late to provide the final line which is something I regret on. I don’t wanna stall a project or be the reason for it not going so well because I didn’t finish my job but unfortunately, I got caught up in so much, my time just ran out and it was posted the exact day I finished the second line for him so it was unlucky :\ good work though, Mushanga. Looking forward for your future installments.

So these where the movies that I can remember that I contributed to. Good luck to all of you :)

Many people got problems getting in contact with me or listening to my voice demos, there will be new voice demos soon up on the page, very very soon. But if you wanna get in contact with me you can email me: Carummerian(at)gmail(dot)com. Or you can also get in contact with me through firebolt which was nicely provided by Yohan himself: caruu(at)fireboltproductions(dot)com. Thanks Yohan!

Some time ago, I voiced for gnomechewer in his terminator trailer inspired machinima: Argent Crusade: Salvation

Awesome stuff, I was able to mispronounce the guy’s name but I think it went well regardless. Gnomechewer is a great guy to voice for. He got some funny ideas.

In an upcoming blog post I will provide a small audio tutorial on how you can handle audio mastering in vegas.

Until then, GxG.

Skyfall Studio

caruu | news | Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

For alittle awhile ago I was asked to do some voices: Kil’jaeden, a narrator and Arthas.

I appreciate getting the opportunity to do Arthas, I love Justin Gross way of acting, and felt I had to repay a homage to how he does that evil brooding style with his voice as Arthas - when he turned from good prince to evil conquer.

Kil’jaeden is also one of my favorite characters from warcraft lore, as he is a force of destruction. Doing his voice was not easy, the guy who did the warcraft 3 version made him sound very…”I could sell you your own grandma” kinda voice and also, there is the problem of how much of it is effects and how much of it is real. I ended up doing loads of different versions of his voice and applying effects to them as I went along but I think the result in the end is very satisfying.

I hate doing Narration…I hate it badly. It is one of those voices where you cannot really put too much emotions into it and trying to balance that fact with the reality that you are reading from a script and avoiding to sound like you are. So despite the narration part, I am really looking forward to seeing the movie when it’s done.

The movie is of course by nihilum.
Considering that the other actors in the movie is by the same studio I’m a member of, I felt this was a great opportunity to talk about Skyfall studios as well.

Skyfall Logo
Skyfall studios is a studio set together by artists to create art and share. It is meant to entertain, educate and awe-inspire.
The studio is working in all sorts of medias so that we can provide in all fields.
Skyfall studios joined nihilum to share our voice over talents but we provide of course more than just VO’s.

We are always looking for more talents in all sorts of fields but we are kinda strict on some levels. We try to avoid it being a machinima talent gathering. Meaning that if you want to talk about machinima, you should do that either on WCM’s forum or Machinima.com.
We want concept artists, sound designers, music composers, voice talents, 3d animators, modelers texture artists, screen actors. ect. ect. Long as you can do something considered to be art in some way, you are welcome to join.

If you are a voice talent and wanna join the official Skyfall studio voice talent group, there are some demands:
1) You gotta have demos, 2) you gotta have a showcase of your work and last but not least. 3) you gotta have good recording equipment. As some of the request we’ve gotten is from professional media, we wanna be able to provide them with good quality recordings.
If you wanna still join and meet these demands; email me: Carummerian(at)gmail(dot)Com with your profile on skyfall studio, your previous work, your recording equipment details and of course demos. And we’ll see if you fit the criteria.

Until next time, GxG

And the winners are….

*IF DANIEL OR MARTIN HAVE ANY PICTURE THEY WANT ME TO PUT UP HERE, EMAIL ME!*

The Synergy contest for best machinima video is over.

At first we have  Busted by Baron Soosdon & Pinkhair

with 46% - 299 votes. Congratulations guys.
I voiced the tauren and orc and voice foleyed several of the characters.
And I also sound designed some of the movie, and audio leveled everything. Considering that the sound design was hurried cos Baron and pinkhair started so late in making their movie, I had to use some blizzard sounds as well as sound library sounds. Sound design takes a very long time. There were times I just wanted to stab BaronSoosdon & Pinkhair but it worked out in the end I think.

Busted Wallpapers *by Pinkhair*: 1, 2, 3,

Second we have The Best Kept Secret of the Horde by Martin Falch

with 45%  - 296 votes. Congratulations Dane.
A highly speculated piece of film by many, cos of the music usage.
Awesome voice acts by Cox and Matt Greenburg.
Sound is not too bad either. The script didn’t justify the movie :)
Good effort there Martin Falch

Third we have The Best Kept Secret of the Horde by Daniel Nordh

with 3% - 19 votes. Congratulations Swede.
A great piece, highly original piece of art. He did the same for his christmas one but it still should be noted for being great! I voiced for all the characters in it. And it was fun. I am looking forward for future movies from Daniel Nordh :)

All in all, I am quite pleased to be apart of 2 movies that won. Well done all three of you!

SoundDPackages you say?

caruu | news | Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Aye say I.

Where’s the friggen flag?

caruu | news | Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Allo, I spent some time on the last post to talk about the movie I SD and voice acted for which was made with Pinkhair&BaronSoosdon. Co- actors: Selserene, olibith and before I forget; Drewbie who I didn’t mention last post. Sorry :\

I was tired and beat after Designing for that movie. And in the joy of being done I forgot about a guy I did voices for. Daniel Nordh. I’m so sorry man. I really am. I loved your style of the movie and it is hard for me to vote.  Daniel did something original and deserves to be noted for that if not winning the entire thing. I voiced all the characters for him and it was very fun. thanks Daniel for asking me along and good luck.

Go onto http://warcraftmovies.com/contest.php and vote for your fav movie :)

*The image should link you to the movie when it is up and running*

Allo allo, recently been lots of hard work being done to a contest video that Pinkhair and BaronSoosdon been working ever so diligently with. I voice act for two Characters: the Tauren and the Orc.

Selserene also stepped in as the gnome and warlock.
I ended up doing the Sound design for it too, but don’t expect something of epic proportions as I kinda just washed through it. There is no walking sounds because we started so late in the productions and sound design takes time, so I had to just go through it quickly adding the sounds that was necessary.

Pinkhair added some excellent animations, there is one that became my favorite and it is brutal. I’ll leave it at that :) you have to see it  for yourself.

BaronSoosdon did as he always does, take everything that is and make it better. The script was not really in my opinion the best out there, but Baron managed to make it something visual appealing.

All in all, though it went through some hard times it was also interesting to see how we all dealt with the stressy situation. When it comes online, click the picture that pinkhair provided and it shall take you directly to our contribution.

Vote for us! you won’t be disappointed with the video and hopefully sound design and acting.

There is also a different movie I got to voice act for which also entered the contest and choose the different script. I did all the male roles for it to my knowledge and should be quite interesting to look at :)

until next time,

GxG.

“Brought to you by Nublock industries”

caruu | news | Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Allo allo,

So finally, BaronSoosdon’s winning entry: The BS-1337 Nuclear Rocket

was posted today.

It was great being the voice trying to sell you a product of “pure explosive power.” The voice is over-the-top kinda voice cos I figured while reading the crazy idea Baron wrote, that it would be most fitting to have a maniac-like voice to be the one selling weapons.

The editing of the movie is great and it is funny to hear myself fit the scenes,  seeing the perpetual “baron” gag with killing the murlocs. Truely, I believe the phones are ringing as we speak. Everyone want a rocket these days.

All in all, it was great working with Rick Astley, jr.

Being the disembodied voice of Norgannon

caruu | news | Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

Allo allo!

The WWI is over and the machinima contestants and the like, was announced through different channels of media. Some deserved their winnings some didn’t, some wasn’t even mentioned for different reasons.

Three of them, I was apart of. Three of them by great artists in the world of machinima. One disqualified, one didn’t win and the other, I am not sure about why it wasn’t mentioned when it won.

The obvious first is: Disks Of Norgannon

created by Mads Hagbarth Lund and ^Dopefish. They did awesome, but since there was footage from blizzards trailers it was disqualified :(   I voice Norgannon in it and it was great. Dopefish got a special way to write his script, which is fascinating for a voice actor’s point of view,  as each line had specific notations on how to pronounce\act the line. All in all, the ending is bad and the music gets too loud. But, amazing nonetheless. CHECK IT OUT!

Second: On second we have BaronSoosdon, who I voiced for. He won the commercial machinima (along with others I presume) I’ll get into this once we get it uploaded somewhere.

Third: The third is a sound design which I did for Baron. It didn’t win for some reason. Check out the Oto Ninja Design for more in depth on my sound design. And you can watch it here

All in all, I think the line up was impressive. I can’t wait to hear the other machinimas that won and didn’t win. Yes - hear, not see but hear.

Until next time,

GxG.
